I have recently completed an adventure in real life shopping that made me appreciate the fact that I do not carry a designer purse or handbag. A very special lady in my life, my wife, dropped a hint a while ago that she could use a new purse. Being an ignorant male, I assumed that this would be no big deal. Honestly, I don't think I have given ten minutes thought to my wallet since I started carrying one when I was a teenager unless it was totally empty or I couldn't find it for some reason. To be fair, my wife did not ask for a designer purse. I just thought it would be a nice surprise.

To let you know how ignorant I was on the subject of designer purses, it should suffice to let you know that I assumed the most expensive designer purses would probably top out in price right around three hundred dollars or so. Um, no. I was a little bit taken aback when I found that the top end in purses goes into the thousands of dollars. That really is not that much for some people to spend I suppose, but it was well beyond what I ever intended to spend and I'm guessing that most people reading this are not looking to spend thousands on a designer handbag right now, but I could be wrong.

So, anyway, if you are looking for a cheap designer purse, without resorting to buying replicas or knockoffs, I have a couple of recommendations that might help you. They certainly helped me, but I had to work to find this stuff out.

After consulting with some experts (female relatives) I learned that there are actually several options to explore when searching out cheap purses.  The one that I figured out and that might be the choice of those who do not like to shop online, is to actually watch for advertised sales that are run occasionally on authentic designer purses.  This is fine if you live in an area where you can readily get yourselves to the retail locations selling the purses and you will also save on any shipping costs, although I didn't run into many situations where the shipping charges were actually all that bad.

Another option is to devote yourself to scoping out sites online that specialize in selling designer purses.  There are actually tons of these sites on the Internet and they are devoted to selling nothing but purses.  These places run a fair number of sales that you might want to check out and it is usually possible to get put onto a list when you visit so that you will be notified of any upcoming mega-sales.  You can find some nice deals at these websites because all they deal in is purses and handbags and most of them do not carry the overhead expense of a "real world" retail location.  The downside here is that you are at the mercy of whatever discount designer bags they decide to offer at a particular time.  If you are on a tight budget, you can't be too choosy.  Some good sites to check are ebags and even Amazon gets in on the purse deals now.

After looking around a LOT, I found some tips for finding cheap purses for sale on eBay. There is a lot more to it, but basically, you want to check out eBay because they have such a huge selection at any given time. The downside here is the worry that you may end up looking at imitation designer purses, but you can pretty much neutralize that concern by thoroughly checking out the seller's feedback and return policy. eBay has recently made it a requirement that sellers have a return policy stated with their auctions. If you find a seller with excellent feedback and a full guarantee, you most likely have found someone selling authentic designer bags online.

There are quite a few items on eBay now that are offered as "buy it now" items. That is, you don't have to bother with bidding. You just click and the item is yours instantly. Many people really like shopping for cheap designer purses this way, but I learned to like auctions more than I ever expected I would. You see, one of the things I hadn't really thought about was the fact that there are a lot of people who don't put very much thought into things like the starting time of their auctions. Once that was pointed out to me, I started looking for purses with an ending time in the middle of the night on a weekday. The reason for this was that there is a lot less bidding competition at that time than there would be during a time when eBay has heavy traffic. Less traffic equals less bidding competition, which often equals a lower ending selling price for whatever item it may be that you are interested in purchasing. This strategy works for finding cheap purse, but it really could be used for grabbing just about anything you are looking for at a lower price.

I ended up getting my wife an authentic, cheap Coach purse off of eBay. I think I did pretty well and it came with a guarantee.
